After the Battle of Washita in 1868 full scale war broke out between the Americans and the Plains Indians
General Sheridan ordered all Cheyennes, Arapahos, and Kiowas onto reservations or face extinction.
Although the Comanches and their allies were better fighters and knew the lay of the land, the Americans had numbers and superior weapons.
The Americans hunted Native Americans relentlessly.
The Red River War was the last great Indian War.
